Don Gordon, BSc, CFP, CLU, ChFC, TEP

Don has been a financial services professional since 1976 and holds Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations. In addition, he is a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the leading international organization for trust and estate professionals.

For over twenty years, Don, as sole executor, has also efficiently and cost-effectively settled domestic and international estates. He has acted as trustee and contingent trustee for Canadian trusts on behalf of domestic clients, foreign non-residents, and United States citizens resident in Canada.

Community service and philanthropy play a large role in Don’s life, as well. One aspect of this work involved travel to Uganda as Canada’s delegate for Oikocredit International, a Netherlands-based microcredit organization. The documentary he filmed and produced about that trip received a Certificate of Merit from the American Motion Picture Society. As an Oikocredit Canada-West director, Don spoke about global microcredit to groups including the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria, Dwight School Canada, Rotary, Gyro, and several public and private schools.

Additionally, Don has organized benefit concerts to raise awareness and funding for local and international non-profit organizations. He also supports the Raise a Reader campaign and is currently a director of Primary Schools for Africa, a Victoria-based charity that designs and funds primary and secondary schools in Tanzania.

Along with the knowledge he offers on planning issues, strategies, and tools, Don believes a key component of his role is creating synergy. His philosophy involves collaboration with clients – and their other professional advisors – to implement carefully balanced financial, legal, and tax strategies.

Don and his wife, Cheryl, live in Victoria. They enjoy cycling the local trails and are experienced SCUBA divers and coastal and offshore sailors.
